Phare de la Méditerranée, Palavas-Les-Flots

France
A renowned architectural landmark of Palavas-Les-Flots, the Phare de la Méditerranée is a 43m high former water tower, which, after a recent renovation, has become a congress centre attracting at the same time tourists and professionals owing to its charm and multifunctionality. Built in 1942 on the ruins of the old port defense tower, this mushroom-shaped structure used to supply water to the city of Palavas-Les-Flots in the years from 1943 to 1997. At the end of the ‘90s, a complete restoration transformed the water tower into a habitable space arranged on eight floors fitted with offices and lodgings. Aligned portholes have been drilled in the concrete structure of the former water tower to allow natural light to get in through this unusual kind of thematic windows. A panoramic promenade deck and a revolving restaurant take up the upper crown of the tower. Located at 34 meters from the ground, a circular observatory platform is enclosed by glass windows and offers a stunning 360° view of the Gulf of Lion, the lakes of Montpellier and the surrounding Languedoc region. On the upper floor, a panoramic revolving restaurant with 200 seats provides an unforgettable French cooking experience in a romantic atmosphere.

Lit up for the first time in 2004 by GRIVEN CYM color changers, the Mediterranean lighthouse has recently been equipped with a new LED illumination system by the company FremySon which replaced the existing fixtures, after 10 years of loyal service, with 9 units of GRIVEN Powershine MK2 D RGBW. "Powershine MK2 D is a victory on all sides: being IP66 rated, it will resist to the harshest weather conditions without problems for many years; its low power consumption significantly reduces the operating costs; its double cluster configuration allows us to precisely aim the light beams where required, lighting up the entire height of the lighthouse with an even color distribution" asserts Fabien Fremy, General Manager at FremySon. Imported by GRIVEN’s exclusive distributor for France, the company CSI of Fresnes, the Powershine MK2 D units have been installed on poles located around the perimeter of the lighthouse to illuminate with bright, vibrant colors this amazing architecture.
POWERSHINE MK2 D, using a total of 192 powerful RGBW LEDs, is a double cluster configuration LED projector that offers full independent digital control of each LED bank. Available with a vast choice of optics for the maximum lighting design flexibility, the combination of RGBW LEDs provides an unprecedented astonishing white light output quality, as well as a wide variety of intermediate color hues for a broad range of application purposes. The pure white light spectrum intensity management obtainable from the Dynamic White model, that adds up to the cool or warm tones, creates a stunning visual rendering of warm tones, natural hues and cool shades altogether, thus offering an unmatched control over the creation of a vast range of the white light chromatic scale.
