The Alexander is accommodated within a historical building dating back to the early twentieth century, when Abovyan Street was one of the most expressive, lively and important avenues in Yerevan in terms of urban development. Elite groups, merchants and celebrities used to live in this street, which also hosted the best shops and manufactories in town.

During the construction phase, a consistent fragment of the old building façade, mainly made of black tuff, was preserved, skillfully restored and integrated into the architecture of the new hotel. Reaching a height of 50 meters, the main façades overlook the intersection of Abovyan and Pushkin streets, while their elegant architectural style, through a perfect combination of precious marbles and a well matched color combination of finishing materials, literally spread an incredible luxury and wealth sensation.

The proposed and implemented lighting concept for the exterior façades of the hotel is based on the alternation of warm and cold white shades, capable of enhancing the architectural features of this luxury hotel with elegant and refined touches of tunable white shades. The vast majority of the fixtures selected for this project has the ability to adjust the white color temperature in the range from 2700K to 6500K. The pure white light spectrum intensity management, obtainable with these dynamic white fixtures, creates a stunning visual rendering of warm tones, natural hues and cool shades altogether, thus offering an unmatched control over the creation of a vast range of the white light chromatic scale.
According to the selected scheme, the lower part of the building is lit up with the help of recessed floodlights of the DUNE MC and DUNE MK2 families. The beam angle orientation adjustment of +/- 10° (tilt) and 90° orientation capability (pan) of these recessed fixtures allow an easygoing process of aiming facilitating a selected light distribution on the main walls.

Artistic forging of the balconies located in the historical part of the entrance have been highlighted with the help of compact linear LED modules of the PARADE S-DW-20 series. The semicircular surfaces of the balconies and the horizontal surfaces of the upper tiers of the building have been illuminated through an array of PARADE S-DW-40 and 60 linear bars.

Interesting architectural details of the columns, interstitial spaces, extended vertical surfaces of the dominant and highest corner parts of the façade, as well as other peculiar architectural features, have been enhanced by the compact and versatile spotlight JADE 16 in Dynamic white color configuration.

In order to complete the required lighting design, an array of POWERSHINE S MK2, in a custom-made version equipped with high-efficiency new-generation diodes and special optics, reproduces a dynamic effect of sunrise and sunset on the walls of the 30m high inner atrium. Moreover, eye-catching lighting accents on the walls of the atrium are obtained with the help of KRESO units in double emission version. The whole lighting system is controlled via the DMX512 protocol, and is integrated into the general BACNet building management system.

A series of Fidenza bollards of the sister company .hess, a member of the Nordeon-Group, have been installed in the adjacent outdoor area, in order to deliver a decorative and functional illumination to the hotel outdoor area.
