Montenegro – Lighting up a beautiful marina bay

Located in the beautiful Bay of Kotor, the southernmost European fjord listed among the UNESCO world heritage sites, Porto Montenegro has recently become an attractive tourist destination offering world-class amenities and a fully equipped marina. Surrounded by refined waterside residences and hotels, first-rate restaurants, retail outlets and luxury shops, lively bars and a wide range of sports, leisure and cultural facilities, Porto Montenegro’s marina is an ideal super-yacht homeport, with a good 185 berths ranging from 12 to 180m, that attracts a vibrant year-round international community.

By the end of last year, the lighting design and installation company Studio Berar Projekt was charged with the implementation of a new lighting system for the crane of the marina of Porto Montenegro. The investor requirements foresaw a colour changing scheme with an even light distribution for the 56 m high crane of the marina bay based on low consumption LED fixtures which, moreover, should be installed within a very reduced space. Additionally, as the new resort had been built with great respect for both the local architectural inheritance and the surrounding natural habitat, it was considered necessary by the client to visually integrate the fixtures into the existing architectural environment.

A professional photometric calculation along with a 3D rendering report, put together by the design department of the company GRIVEN in cooperation with Studio Berar Project’s team, was presented to the investors in order to realistically show the final result of the project. The chosen LED lighting fixtures, the renowned POWERSHINE MK2 D RGBW, owing to their double cluster configuration and wide optics choice, allow the utmost design flexibility enabling to reach the required uniform coverage of the illuminated surface that was a must for the client. In December 2014, Studio Berar, in collaboration with the company Telemont from Podgorica, installed an array of Powershine MK2 D in RGBW colour configuration with narrow, medium and wide optics to evenly illuminate the 52 meters of the marina’s crane, which, according to the initial photometric calculations, can now be seen from very far away.

Using a total of 192 powerful RGBW LEDs, POWERSHINE MK2 D RGBW offers full independent control of each LED bank, allowing absolute freedom to create matching or divergent effects on formerly prohibitive large-scale facades and remote spots. The combination of RGBW LEDs provides an unprecedented astonishing white light output quality, as well as a wider variety of intermediate colour hues for an even broader range of application purposes. POWERSHINE MK2 D is also available in the Polar Edition featuring an integrated de-icing system with electrically heated glass, which assures a comfortable functioning even in the utmost severe cold weather conditions.
